Meet the Aussie-built magnetic scale eliminator
- Softens and removes existing concrete-hard scale from pipes
- Prevents further scale build up in and around pipes
- No chemicals needed
- Easy fit and install – no labour needed after initial installation
- Water and time do the removal work – scale simply washes out with the water
- Keeps new installations free from scale
- Proven results in underground mine tests and other industrial and agricultural applications
How does Scale Busta work?
Scale Busta Magnetic Scale Eliminator focuses a very intense magnetic field through the pipe wall into the water to be treated, with AMAZING results!
Scale Busta softens and removes existing concrete-hard scale from the pipes and then works hard at keeping them scale free. Simply install and forget. No chemicals. No labour. No need to replace pipes.
The very strong and intense magnetic field within the unit causes a change to the charge of the ionic particles (minerals). Scale Busta doesn’t actually remove the calcium and magnesium from the water, it renders them technically inert. They lose their ability to bind and to set like cement which means that you will no longer have that scale build-up on everything that the water comes into contact with.
How is Scale Busta used in underground mines?
Scale Busta was specifically designed to treat the extreme mineral concentrations that can be found in underground mines. The unit was tailor made to fit the 6 inch pipeline used in underground mining thus eliminating the need for extensions, and it is the same length as one section of pipe (6.5 m).
The Scale Busta unit only adds about 40 kg to the pipe section weight and is only 350 mm in diameter. The weight is an important feature of Scale Busta – the Aussie-built scale buster, as the pipes are usually hung in groups from the roof of mine roads by chains.
Applications for underground mines:
- On the out flush lines
- On the incoming lines
- On clean water lines
- On dam water lines
- On feed cooling water to equipment
- On water coolers
- On Heat exchangers
- On old pipes metal or poly pipes
- On new installations to prevent scale build up starting
Case study – magnetised water trial at Mandalong
Test the effectiveness of magnetic water conditioning on the removal of Scale build up inside the water extraction pipes used in underground mines.
Water in underground mines is typically saturated with calcium and magnesium among other elements. It has been shown in some trials that these salts form crystals of calcium sulfate and calcium silicate. These crystals precipitate out and combine to form deposits on the pipe walls. These build up and eventually significantly reduce the flow area in the pipe. Some tests have shown that after the salt saturated water is exposed to magnetic fields of sufficient field strength and gradients the treated sample contains the crystals of calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate as the dominate species. The before and after treatment samples are therefore physically different. It has also been observed that the crystal formed after magnetic treatment tends not to deposit on the inner lining of the pipe. This difference in properties has resulted in removal of scale build up in the pipe.
The overall combined length of the test unit is 6.5 metres allowing for straight replacement of a standard length of pipe. The Scale Busta Magnetic Scale Eliminator is contained within a Diameter 280 x 300 mm long stainless steel cylinder fitted in centre and concentric to a 4 inch diameter stainless steel pipe 500 mm in length. The 4 inch stainless steel pipe is fitted with Victaulic Shouldered System on either end. The conditioner is then attached to two 6 to 4 inch reducers with Victaulic fittings on either end. The reducers are each 300 mm in length. This assembly is then combined with a 5.4 metre length of 6 inch steel pipe again with Victaulic fittings. The 5.4 metre length of 6 inch steel pipe is made from 2 sections one 500 mm in length the other 4.9 metre. The individual sections will be assembled on site for ease of transportation.
Identify an appropriate location for installing the Scale Busta Magnetic Scale Eliminator. This location should have easy access as it will be required to visit the site on a regular basis for observation and recording progress.
Identify an appropriate location for carrying out observations and tests. This location should have easy access as it will be required to visit the site on a regular basis for observation and recording progress. If necessary a section of pipe will need to be removed at time of observation.
Identify an appropriate location for strainer. We expect there to be a number of scale fragments that will dislodge in the pipe. The downstream effects of these fragments must be considered. We may need to consider installing a strainer for the discharge of the pipe so that we can collect any calcium chips that will be discharged. It may also be necessary to flush scale fragments from elbows and low angle joints. This requirement is simply dependent on the pumps ability to push the fragments down line.
- Take all individual components to the site
- Assemble sections fitting Victaulic clamps to form the desired 6.5 metre overall length
- Remove section of pipe from existing water mains
- Install Scale Busta Magnetic Water Conditioning assembly
- Note condition of removed pipe section. Take photo with ruler to monitor scale depth
Testing and Observation
- Remove section of pipe from the test section of existing water mains. Note condition of removed pipe section. Take photo with ruler to monitor scale depth
- Return to testing site after 1 week. Repeat step 1
- Return to testing site after 2 week. Repeat step 1
- Return to testing site after 2 week. Depending on results Repeat step 1
“See attached photos. The calcium that lined the pipes on installation was set hard like concrete. When we have opened the pipes the calcium had softened and could easily be wiped off with your finger see photo. One of the other photos shows the chips of calcium that have dislodged from the pipe at the discharge point and the calcium build up has reduced. This is an excellent result and you should be very excited.”
